This study explores the representation of Indonesian cultural identity and the elements of fantasy in two Indonesian animated films, Knight Kris and Si Juki The Movie: Harta Pulau Monyet , as well as their implications for teaching Bahasa Indonesia in junior high schools. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with content analysis, data were collected through in-depth audiovisual observations and systematic note-taking. The findings reveal that Knight Kris strongly emphasizes Javanese mythology and traditional cultural values, with language playing a dominant role (54% of findings). In contrast, Si Juki The Movie represents contemporary urban culture, particularly through the use of Betawi dialect (92% of findings). Fantasy elements in both films are mainly constructed through characterization and plot: Knight Kris builds an epic mythological narrative, while Si Juki presents an absurd comedic fantasy integrated with daily urban realities. The results indicate that both films hold significant potential as learning media for fantasy texts in the Indonesian language curriculum at junior high schools. Through contextualized modules, students can identify cultural representation, analyze fantasy elements, and connect story messages with local values. This study highlights the relevance of local animated films in strengthening students’ cultural literacy while enhancing their comprehension and appreciation of fantasy texts.
