This study examines the effectiveness of virtual reality and interactive applications in teaching 10th-grade high school students the skill of reciting anecdotal texts, using an experimental design (one-group pretest-posttest design). All 10th-grade students served as the study’s subjects, with students from classes X-9 and X-10 selected as the sample through purposive sampling. The objective of this study is to measure the effectiveness of using virtual reality media and interactive application media in improving students’ speaking skills. In this study, virtual reality media and interactive application media serve as independent variables, while the skill of reciting anecdotal texts serves as the dependent variable. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests, and data analysis was conducted using a t-test with SPSS 23. The results of the study indicate that the use of VR media is more effective than interactive application media. The results of the paired-sample t-test on the experimental and control classes showed a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000 (<0.05), indicating a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test. Furthermore, the independent-sample t-test on the post-test data of both classes yielded a significance value (two-tailed) of 0.020 (<0.05), indicating a significant effect. The N-gain score for the experimental group was 0.32 (moderate category) and for the control group was 0.27 (low category). The results of the analysis indicate that the use of VR media is more effective than interactive applications in improving the skill of reading anecdotal texts aloud.
