Urban revitalization through a creative placemaking approach has become an important strategy in reactivating public spaces that have experienced functional and social decline. JNM Bloc Yogyakarta and Blok M Jakarta represent two transformations of former urban areas into creative public spaces with distinct spatial and social dynamics. Previous studies have generally examined these areas separately, focusing on aspects such as adaptive reuse, urban regeneration, or their role as youth gathering spaces. However, comparative research that analyzes spatial characteristics, activity patterns, and user experiences within the framework of creative placemaking remains limited. This study aims to compare the spatial character, activity patterns, and user experiences of both areas in shaping place identity and urban vitality. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach using a comparative case study method through field observations, visual documentation, and semi-structured interviews. The findings indicate that JNM Bloc emphasizes historical continuity and community-based artistic activities, creating an intimate and curated spatial atmosphere. In contrast, Blok M demonstrates dense urban dynamics characterized by diverse culinary, entertainment, and nightlife activities. These findings confirm that historical context, activity intensity, and spatial connectivity play significant roles in shaping place identity and the experience of creative public spaces. This study contributes to expanding comparative discussions on creative public spaces in different urban contexts.
