Alun-Alun Tulungagung, as a public open space, experiences spatial conflict due to overlapping use of its skate area by BMX riders, skateboarders, and children, as reflected in a viral incident during the Car Free Day of 3 November 2024. Prior studies on similar sports facilities in Indonesia generally stop at exploring spatial needs and typological precedents without positioning the design process as a tested research instrument, leaving its scholarly contribution to the public-space-overlap problem unclear. This study addresses that gap by framing the design of the Ngujang Extreme Sport Tulungagung (NEST) as design-led research (DLR), in which the design artefact serves as both research instrument and finding to answer the research question: to what extent can adaptive zoning and separated circulation be simultaneously integrated to resolve spatial conflict in a multidisciplinary extreme-sports facility. The novelty of this study lies in combining both approaches into a single design framework tested against international technical standards, which has not been explicitly examined in prior similar design studies. Primary data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and measurement, combined with secondary data from literature and spatial-policy review, then analysed through user, spatial-need, site, and activity analyses as the basis for testing the design propositions. The resulting research artefacts, comprising a site plan, floor plans, elevations, sections, and perspectives, show that dividing the site into five functional areas and a pair of oval, tiered outdoor competition arenas that can alternately host three disciplines empirically separates athlete, spectator, and park-visitor circulation without sacrificing land flexibility. These findings confirm that adaptive zoning and separated circulation can constitute a replicable design framework for other multidisciplinary extreme-sports facilities in regency-scale public spaces, while supporting Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11 on inclusive, safe, and sustainable cities and communities.
