Abstract

Stand-up comedy performances in Indonesia, especially in Kediri City, have developed very rapidly in recent years, marked by an increasing number of active comedians and performance frequency. Unfortunately, the existing facilities are not yet adequate, so performances and learning activities are often held in venues that do not meet the required needs, such as cafes and multipurpose halls that have not been specifically designed for the acoustic, visual, and comfort needs of performing arts. This study aims to design a Stand-Up Comedy Convention and Learning Center in Kediri that functions as a venue for performance, education, and entertainment through a contemporary architectural approach. The design method applies the Glass Box approach, which is rational, logical, and transparent, covering the stages of preparation and identification, data collection and analysis, up to design development. The analysis results produced a dynamic contemporary building design, with a roof form inspired by the winding flow of the Brantas River, representing the storyline and punchline structure of stand-up comedy performances. This building is designed as a place for the community to develop their talents, hold performance events, and provide learning facilities through comedy classrooms, rehearsal studios, and a 2,000-seat auditorium. With this convention center, it is hoped that Kediri's identity as a creative city based on performing arts and modern entertainment can be strengthened.
