Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of concept understanding and communication skills on participants' critical thinking skills students in learning Natural Sciences (IPA) at school level Junior high school (SMP). The main problem in this research is The low critical thinking skills of students have an impact on students' ability to analyze and solve problems science-based. This research uses a quantitative approach with correlational survey method and multiple linear regression analysis. Subject The research included students in grades VII, VIII and IX from two schools junior high school in Jakarta, namely Budi Mulia Middle School and Tarakanita Middle School 2. The instrument used is an indicator-based questionnaire which has been validated. The research results show that there is positive and significant influence between understanding the concept of critical thinking skills. Apart from that, communication skills too significant effect on critical thinking skills. By Simultaneously, the two independent variables provide a significant contribution in improving students' critical thinking skills. this finding indicates the importance of strengthening understanding of concepts and communication skills in the science learning process to form students who are able to think critically and reflectively about phenomena the surrounding nature.
