Abstract

Conceptual understanding is an important aspect in learning mathematics. In reality, many students only memorize formulas without understanding the meaning behind them. This causes students' low ability to solve problems based on conceptual understanding. One factor suspected of influencing the ability to understand mathematical concepts is learning style. The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of learning styles and learning discipline on understanding mathematical concepts. The research method used was a survey method. A sample of 84 students was taken using a simple random technique. Data collection was carried out using questionnaires and questions directly to the sample. Data analysis used path analysis. The results of the study showed that: 1) there is an influence between learning styles on understanding mathematical concepts. 2) there is an influence between learning discipline on understanding mathematical concepts. 3) there is an interactive influence between learning styles and learning discipline on understanding mathematical concepts. Optimizing learning styles and learning discipline also has an impact on increasing students' self-confidence and learning discipline. When students learn in a way that best suits them, they will more easily understand concepts, be more actively involved in the learning process, and be more confident in completing mathematical assignments. Therefore, this effort not only improves students' cognitive aspects, but also supports the development of affective and psychomotor aspects holistically.
