Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of the learning environment and self-confidence on students' understanding of mathematical concepts in Sub Rayon 7, Lebak Regency. The research method used is an ex post facto survey in which the learning environment variable is divided into two categories, namely mountainous and coastal learning environments, and the self-confidence variable is divided into two groups, namely high self-confidence and low self-confidence. The variable of understanding mathematical concepts is a test instrument for integer material for grade VII with respondents from grade VIII of Public Junior High Schools in Sub Rayon 7, Lebak Regency. The results of the study: 1) there is a significant interaction effect between the learning environment and self-confidence on students' understanding of mathematical concepts. This is evidenced by a significance score of 0.000 <0.05; 2) there is a significant effect between the learning environment on understanding mathematical concepts. This is evidenced by a significance score of 0.002 <0.05, 3) there is a significant effect between self-confidence on understanding mathematical concepts. This is evidenced by a significance score of 0.007 <0.05. These findings provide important implications for teachers and schools to design learning strategies that are adaptive to environmental conditions and capable of fostering student self-confidence, both in mountainous and coastal environments.
