The success of students in learning mathematics can not only be seen and measured by being able to memorize or remember formulas, but can be seen from the abilities of the students, both the ability to understand concepts, master the material, and solve problems. The purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which perceptions of teachers’ pedagogical competence and students’ learning independence influence their understanding of mathematical concepts. The research method employed was a survey, involving 84 students as the sample, selected using a simple random sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires administered directly to the sample. Data analysis employed descriptive statistics and regression analysis (normality test, homogeneity test, multicollinearity test, heteroscedasticity test, and linearity test). The results showed: (1) There was a significant effect of perceptions of teachers’ pedagogical competence and learning independence on students’ understanding of mathematical concepts, as evidenced by a Sig value of 0.000 < 0.05 and an F-value of 18.046; (2) There was a significant effect of perceptions of teachers’ pedagogical competence on students’ understanding of mathematical concepts, as evidenced by a Sig value of 0.000 < 0.05 and a t-value of 4.492;and (3) There was a significant effect of learning independence on students’ understanding of mathematical concepts, as evidenced by a Sig value of 0.000 < 0.05 and a t-value of 2.491. To improve perceptions of teachers’ pedagogical competence and students’ learning independence, effective cooperation among students, parents, and teachers is necessary, enabling students to gain a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts and thereby enhance their mathematics learning outcomes.
