Football jerseys function not only as a match apparel but also as visual communication media that convey identity and symbolic meanings through their visual elements. However, a preliminary study indicated that many football enthusiasts have limited understanding of the symbolic meanings embedded in jersey designs, revealing a gap between the meanings constructed by designers and those interpreted by audiences. This study aims to analyze the representation of City of Champions in PERSIB’s 2025/2026 home jersey using Roland Barthes’ semiotic approach. A descriptive qualitative method was employed to examine three main visual elements: color, motif, and logo. Data were collected through visual observation of the jersey and documentation from official PERSIB sources. The findings reveal that each visual element constructs layered meanings across the levels of denotation, connotation, and myth. The blue and white colors represent the club’s identity and the pride of Bandung, the arrow motif symbolizes the aspiration for continuous progress in accordance with the City of Champions narrative, while the PERSIB logo functions as a marker of cultural identity that integrates the history of the club and the city into a unified system of meaning. These three elements work synergistically as a sign system that naturalizes the City of Champions narrative into a visual identity that appears organic and natural. This study contributes to the development of Barthes’ semiotic framework in football jersey design by positioning local identity as the primary foundation of visual meaning construction.
