Publication Charges Policy

Jurnal Desain is committed to maintaining transparent publication charges and ensuring that all editorial decisions remain independent from financial considerations.

Submission, editorial assessment, peer review, acceptance, and publication decisions are based exclusively on the scholarly quality, integrity, relevance, and publication readiness of the manuscript.

Payment of any journal fee does not guarantee peer review, acceptance, publication, publication in a particular issue, or issuance of a Letter of Acceptance (LoA).

1. Article Submission Charge

Article Submission Charge (ASC): IDR 0

Jurnal Desain does not charge authors for submitting a manuscript.

No payment is required:

  • at the time of manuscript submission;
  • during the Preliminary Administrative Completeness Check; or
  • during the Initial Editorial Assessment.

A manuscript may therefore be submitted and undergo the journal's initial editorial evaluation without any submission fee.

2. Article Processing Charge

Effective from Volume 14, Number 1 (September 2026):

Article Processing Charge (APC): IDR 1,000,000 per accepted article

The APC applies only to manuscripts that have formally received an Accepted editorial decision.

The APC supports the journal's publication and editorial infrastructure, including:

  • editorial administration;
  • management of the peer-review process;
  • manuscript and metadata processing;
  • copyediting;
  • layout editing;
  • proofreading and production preparation;
  • DOI and publication metadata management;
  • online publication;
  • journal platform operation and maintenance;
  • digital dissemination; and
  • other activities required to maintain the quality and sustainability of scholarly publishing.

Payment of the APC does not influence peer-review reports or editorial decisions.

3. When the APC Is Payable

Authors are not required to pay the APC before acceptance.

The APC becomes payable only after:

  1. the manuscript has completed the required editorial and peer-review process;
  2. all required revisions have been satisfactorily addressed;
  3. the final editorial assessment has been completed; and
  4. the manuscript has formally received an Accepted decision from Jurnal Desain.

Following acceptance, the corresponding author will receive official information regarding the applicable APC and payment procedure.

Authors should make payment only through the procedure officially communicated by Jurnal Desain.

4. Letter of Acceptance and APC Payment

A Letter of Acceptance (LoA) may be issued only after the manuscript has formally received an Accepted editorial decision.

The scholarly decision to accept a manuscript is made independently from APC payment.

Payment of the APC:

  • is not required in order to obtain a favorable peer-review recommendation;
  • is not a condition for the Editor to make an acceptance decision;
  • does not influence the acceptance decision; and
  • does not constitute payment for an LoA.

Where applicable, completion of APC payment is required before the accepted article proceeds to final publication.

5. APC Waiver for Authors Outside Indonesia

Jurnal Desain provides a 100% Article Processing Charge (APC) waiver for manuscripts in which all authors are affiliated with institutions located outside Indonesia.

Accordingly:

  • the waiver applies only when every author listed in the manuscript has an institutional affiliation outside Indonesia;
  • manuscripts involving one or more authors affiliated with an institution in Indonesia are not eligible for the international APC waiver;
  • eligibility is determined based on the institutional affiliations declared in the manuscript and OJS metadata at the time of submission and verified before publication; and
  • the journal may request clarification or supporting information where an author's institutional affiliation is unclear.

For eligible manuscripts:

Article Processing Charge (APC): IDR 0

The APC waiver:

  • does not influence the Initial Editorial Assessment;
  • does not influence reviewer selection or peer-review recommendations;
  • does not guarantee acceptance;
  • does not provide priority editorial treatment;
  • does not guarantee publication in a particular issue; and
  • does not exempt the manuscript from any scholarly, ethical, technical, or editorial requirements of Jurnal Desain.

The international APC waiver applies only to the Article Processing Charge. It does not automatically waive the Fast-Track Review Fee where the authors voluntarily request and are approved for the Fast-Track Review service.

6. Fast-Track Review Fee

Jurnal Desain also provides an optional Fast-Track Review service.

Fast-Track Review Fee: IDR 500,000 per manuscript

The Fast-Track Review Fee is separate from the APC and applies only to manuscripts formally approved for the Fast-Track Review pathway.

The Fast-Track Review Fee covers the additional editorial and administrative resources required for expedited reviewer coordination and priority monitoring of the editorial and peer-review process.

The fee is not:

  • an acceptance fee;
  • a publication fee;
  • a payment for a favorable reviewer recommendation;
  • a payment for an LoA; or
  • a guarantee of publication.

Fast-Track manuscripts undergo the same scholarly standards, double-blind peer-review procedures, reviewer qualification requirements, and editorial decision criteria as regular submissions.

Detailed eligibility requirements, procedures, timelines, payment conditions, refund provisions, and other terms are provided on the Fast-Track Review Policy page.

7. Relationship Between the APC and Fast-Track Review Fee

The APC and Fast-Track Review Fee have different purposes.

Fast-Track Review Fee
→ applies to the optional expedited review service.

Article Processing Charge (APC)
→ applies to publication processing after the manuscript has formally been accepted.

Payment of the Fast-Track Review Fee does not replace the APC.

Likewise, payment of the APC does not constitute payment for Fast-Track Review.

An APC waiver does not automatically constitute a waiver of the Fast-Track Review Fee unless otherwise formally approved by Jurnal Desain.

8. Editorial Independence

All financial matters are separated from scholarly decision-making.

The Editor-in-Chief, Section Editors, Editorial Team, and peer reviewers evaluate manuscripts according to academic and ethical considerations, including:

  • relevance to the journal's Focus and Scope;
  • originality and scholarly contribution;
  • methodological or research-design adequacy;
  • quality of evidence;
  • analytical depth;
  • ethical and research-integrity compliance; and
  • overall publication readiness.

Editorial decisions must not be influenced by:

  • payment or non-payment of an APC before acceptance;
  • Fast-Track Review fees;
  • sponsorship;
  • institutional affiliation;
  • requests for accelerated publication;
  • commercial interests; or
  • any other inappropriate external influence.

Peer reviewers are not involved in APC collection or payment decisions.

9. Transparency of Charges

Jurnal Desain does not impose publication-related charges that are not disclosed in its official journal policies.

Authors will be informed of any applicable charge through the journal's official editorial communication.

Authors should not make payments based on unofficial requests or communications outside the procedures specified by Jurnal Desain.

Where a third-party service is required and results in an additional charge to the author, such a requirement and its applicable cost must be communicated transparently before the author incurs the charge.
