Journal History

Jurnal Desain was first published in September 2013 by Universitas Indraprasta PGRI. The journal was established as a scholarly publication platform in the fields of design, visual art, visual communication, and related areas. Its first issue was published as Volume 1 Number 1 (2013).

Starting from Volume 6 Number 1 (September 2018), Jurnal Desain revised its Author Guidelines and article format, including a transition from a two-column layout to a single-column layout. The journal also began accepting manuscripts written in both English and Bahasa Indonesia.

Since Volume 6 Number 2 (January 2019), published articles in Jurnal Desain have been assigned Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs).

In 2019, Jurnal Desain obtained national accreditation Rank 5 (SINTA 5) based on Decree No. 10/E/KPT/2019, covering publications from Volume 4 Number 3 (2017) to Volume 8 Number 2 (2021).

Beginning with Volume 8 Number 1 (September 2020), Jurnal Desain adopted The Chicago Manual of Style, 17th Edition, replacing the previously used MLA 8th Edition and introducing corresponding adjustments to the manuscript template.

Subsequently, Jurnal Desain achieved national accreditation Rank 4 (SINTA 4) based on Decree No. 200/M/KPT/2020, covering Volume 7 Number 3 (2020) to Volume 12 Number 2 (2025).

Starting from Volume 11 Number 1 (September 2023), Jurnal Desain introduced a revised journal logo and article template and adopted APA Style, 7th Edition for citation and reference formatting.

On April 1, 2024, Jurnal Desain introduced an optional Fast-Track Review service to provide an expedited review pathway for eligible manuscripts. The service does not guarantee manuscript acceptance.

In July 2024, Jurnal Desain was officially indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).

Beginning in December 2024, authors were required to submit an Author Integrity Declaration as part of the manuscript-submission process.

Starting in January 2025, Jurnal Desain implemented an Article Processing Charge (APC) of IDR 500,000 for manuscripts processed and published under the applicable policy at that time.

In February 2025, Jurnal Desain reorganized its editorial structure to strengthen journal governance and scholarly management in accordance with applicable national guidance for scientific-journal management.

From May 6 to June 8, 2025, the journal's website experienced a temporary service disruption caused by a malware incident. The disruption affected website accessibility and the availability of visitor statistics during that period.

On July 9, 2025, Jurnal Desain migrated its active editorial and publication operations to a new journal management platform at the current OJS website. The previous website was retained as a legacy archive for publications from Volume 1 Number 1 (2013) to Volume 12 Number 3 (2025). Manuscripts that were still active during the migration period were transferred or resubmitted as required to ensure continuity of editorial processing.

During August 2025, the journal completed further migration and upgrading of its OJS-based journal management system to strengthen the continuity of submission, peer-review, and editorial records.

Starting from Volume 13 Number 1 (September 2025), Jurnal Desain introduced a revised article template and formally implemented a double-blind peer-review process involving two reviewers for each manuscript proceeding to external review, subject to transitional arrangements for manuscripts already under review or editing on the previous platform.

Beginning with Volume 13 Number 1 (September 2025), the journal changed its publication frequency from triannual to quarterly. Regular issues are now scheduled for September, December, March, and June.

Starting from Volume 13 Number 3 (March 2026), Jurnal Desain introduced a further adjustment to its article template and expanded its editorial capacity through the appointment of additional Section Editors and reviewers.

In 2026, Jurnal Desain achieved national reaccreditation Rank 3 (SINTA 3) based on Decree No. 295/C/C3/KPT/2026. The reaccreditation upgraded the journal from Rank 4 to Rank 3 and is valid from Volume 12 Number 2 (2025) to Volume 17 Number 1 (2030).

Beginning with Volume 14 Number 1 (September 2026), Jurnal Desain implemented a revised publication-charge policy, setting the Article Processing Charge (APC) at IDR 1,000,000 per accepted article, while maintaining an Article Submission Charge of IDR 0. The journal also strengthened its editorial, publication-ethics, AI, research-data, reviewer-governance, and post-publication policies in response to updated national scientific-journal accreditation requirements.

In September 2026, following the issuance of the updated national regulations and technical guidelines for scientific-journal accreditation, Jurnal Desain undertook a comprehensive revision of its editorial, publication, and journal-governance framework. The revision included the restructuring and updating of journal information and policy pages, the article template, Author Guidelines, Submission Preparation Checklist, Peer Review Process, Reviewer Guidelines, publication-ethics provisions, Artificial Intelligence policy, research-data and reproducibility requirements, author declarations, reviewer governance, publication-charge information, and article metadata and production requirements. These developments were implemented to strengthen editorial transparency, publication integrity, peer-review accountability, author guidance, and the overall quality and consistency of the journal's scholarly publishing process.
